A printed archive exploring the history of oppressed women in the Netherlands and their radical activism, through the perspective of design. The publication opens with an introduction on the act of archiving, featuring Sigmund Freud’s essay A Note upon the Mystic Writing-Pad. It then traces the evolution of feminist movements through the First Feminist Wave, the Provo movement, and the uprisings of May ’68, which was a revolutionary period that shaped new, freer forms of protest.
At its core, the publication seeks to amplify the voices of women and feminist protests, focusing on their visual expression. It brings together archival designs and photographs sourced from various institutions, culminating in conversations with feminist Nel Willekens and illustrator Anna June van Duijn. Together, they reflect on how we can continue to raise awareness of women’s voices and challenge patriarchal structures through design and dialogue.
